If money is no object, McLaren’s bespoke division MSO will be more than happy to build you a one-off car just for you. That’s exactly the case with one McLaren customer, although instead of one bespoke McLaren car, he ordered two.
Here they are – the MSO R Coupe and MSO R Spider – both based on the 650S and with the same external, internal and mechanical specifications as well. Aside from the different body styles, the MSO R cars wear a Liquid Silver finish (satin for the Coupe and gloss for the Spider) and a carbon-fibre central stripe.
Elsewhere, the front bumper, bonnet, louvered fenders, roof scoop and rear deck, side mirror arms and casings and wiper scuttle are all done up in are all MSO Visual Carbon Fibre (VCF) because “carbon-fibre all the things.” The aero components are also plain for all to see, as both cars are fitted with front dive planes and a twin-element rear wing,
More details can be located on the front splitter and side blades, with pinstriping in Delta Red. There’s also a generous sprinkling of ‘MSO R’ branding on the splitter, side skirts, sill panels, rocker panels and plenum cover to ensure the plebs know just how wealthy this individual is. Lastly, the wheels on both cars are the same five-spoke design, finished in satin black on the Coupe and gloss black on the Spider.
Moving inside, there’s plenty of Alcantara trim throughout the cabin and the seats follow a red with black stitching theme. The steering wheel comes with a carbon-fibre upper and lower, as well as black Alcantara grips and a Delta Red centring stripe.
Under the bonnet, MSO blueprinted the engines of both cars and their heads and exhaust ports have been hand-polished. Additionally, the exhaust system features a crossover muffler to increase pipe length and optimise gas flow, along with titanium end pipes. As a result, the M838TL 3.8 litre twin-turbo V8 makes 688 PS and 700 Nm, which a tad bit more than the regular 650S.
