New workshops in industrial areas only – KL Minister

Licenses for new workshop premises within Kuala Lumpur will only be issued to those operating within industrial areas, deputy federal territories minister Datuk Dr Loga Bala Mohan said in a Bernama report.

“DBKL always monitors and takes action against car workshops which operate illegally, create nuisance to the public and cause pollution,” he said, adding that all applications will be screened by the Premise Licensing Committee which is made up of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Royal Malaysia Police, Companies Commission of Malaysia and the Fire and Rescue Department.

There are 830 licenced car workshops in the city and this is still a small number in comparison with the number of registered vehicles in Kuala Lumpur, the deputy minister said.

some car accessories shop illegally block up the parking spots using crates or cones. they didn’t even bother to pay rental for the parking lots and simply book it as if it’s theirs. do a crackdown on them and DBKL will be rich!

Happening in my little town. Two workshops, one of them at an end lot, another one opens up at a shop lot at a small 1 way street. As you walk along the road you see bakeries, restaurants, little cafes, grocery stores, tailor shops, and then BAM! An eyesore of a workshop.

In SS2 and Damansara Utama got so many car workshops. They reseve not one bay but a few bays with old tayar. These bays are not official reserved bays. All KL workshops also do this.

So each workshop illegally takes up about 5 parking spaces meant for the rakyat.

I complain to MBPJ officer there and he smile at me and say they cannot do anything about it.

1 hour later I see the same office having lunch with the workshop people…sitting together and laughing and sharing a beautiful meal.

Can the KL Minister explain how do we overcome this? Like I said, all KL workshops also do this

man u have to come over to Taman Danau Desa to have a look after DBKL put all the new machines, many parking lots are blocked by a metal tube written DBKL reserved lots….the difference here just that the shop operator have to pay rental to DBKL….even less parking lots now compared to Salak south garden because you have money u can rent two or three lots you like and DBKL will put a metal bar reserve for u.
