SPIED: 2018 Mercedes-AMG A35 – mid-range hot hatch

The new W177 Mercedes-Benz A-Class will be revealed soon – as soon as the Detroit Auto Show this month, in fact – and that means there’s plenty of hype surrounding the new premium hatchback. These include the upcoming AMG models, and the mid-range version, the Mercedes-AMG A 35, has just been spotted by our spy photographers.

Despite the basic-looking wheels, it’s clear that this is one very serious machine, with bulging front air intakes, a lower ride height and a set of massive front brakes. There’s also a sizeable rear diffuser with integrated twin tailpipes, likely to distance itself from the more hardcore A 45.

SPIED: 2018 Mercedes-AMG A35 – mid-range hot hatch

Mercedes-AMG CEO Tobias Moers has already confirmed the existence of the A 35, saying that he sees “huge opportunity” for the “A 45’s little brother.” Set to take on the Audi S3, Volkswagen Golf R and Honda Civic Type R, it will be the cheapest AMG model to date, with Moers adding, “The price point will be low, and not everything we can do with the 45 we can afford for the 35.”

Expect the A 35 to contain the same basic ingredients as the A 45 – a 2.0 litre turbo four-cylinder engine and a 4Matic all-wheel drive system. However, while the more powerful model is expected to break past the 400 hp barrier in the next generation, this car should be dialled back to somewhere in the region of 340 hp.

  • Cant afford the real deal A45. Buy this slower mid spec version. Use for a few years until breakdown, then wait for halfcut accident AMG A45 units from Ah Beng scrapyards.
Convert the s**t out of it with AMG A45 parts and drive like maniacs at Sunway and Sepang. Settle bros.
Many of you readers here who happen to own TCP Civics confirm still inside the waiting list for halfcut FK8 type Rs to convert their rides for sure. LOL.
    Dun angry ya. Its true.

    • FK8 converts here wud be a poor choice cuz the body chosen was hatchback variant while Civics sold here is sedan. This unlike old FD2R which can be ‘cloned’ with local Civics. But ahbengs will still try, no matter the ridiculousness of it.

Hahahaha. So true but many readers here might be offended by your totally True statement.
Not surprising after this there will be many cases of FK8 type Rs and AMG A45 models being stolen all over Malaysia for spare parts ETC. Put explosive devices inside them for the thieves or dont buy them to be safe.
Drive the useless Ugly Honda HR-V and City and crappy A250 Sport models boleh already. Ugly wherever you park it and nobody likes it except people who have no idea about Type Rs or AMG cars. No offence ya people.

This A35 is still a Hot hatch bro. At around 340 HP, it is still the 2nd best Hot hatch for Merc. Maybe a test run in Sepang with a Golf R, Focus RS, Megane R or Civic R will give a better picture !!

With that kind of HP, I reckon the driver with the balls of titanium will win & not the one with the highest HP. Cheers
