PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM) launched a new range topping variant of the Daihatsu Terios at the ongoing 2018 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS). The Daihatsu Terios Custom is based on the top R trim level, but adds on extra features, mostly to the exterior. Compared to the R Deluxe, the Custom has a sportier appearance.
Aside from the red/grey body stripes, the Terios Custom is differentiated by a dark chrome grille that replaces the shiny item on the R. ADM did leave one of the four horizontal in normal chrome though – that one serves as “wings” for the Daihatsu badge and bridges the LED position lamps. Flanking the grille, the housing for the fog lamps are now large and in black.
The lower portion of the sides and rear no longer have SUV-style black plastic cladding, replaced by body coloured bits. The rear bumper reflectors get black cutouts to match those in the front. Lastly, there’s a Custom sticker below the Terios badge and a black muffler.
The 17-inch two-tone alloys, roof rails, spoiler and LED tail lamps are standard on all R variants. Like the R Deluxe, the Custom gets Around View Monitor parking assist. The Terios Custom is priced at Rp 240.3 juta (RM67,647) for the five-speed manual and Rp 250.3 juta (RM70,460) for the four-speed automatic.
The Daihatsu Terios range is priced slightly lower than its twin, the Toyota Rush, and this is consistent with the Daihatsu-Toyota brand positioning in Indonesia, as seen with the Ayla-Agya, Calya–Sigra and Avanza-Xenia pairs.
Revealed in November 2017, the latest Terios is underpinned by an overhauled platform, which means that it retains the front engine, rear-wheel drive layout. Handling stability and ride comfort, NVH levels and fuel efficiency have all been improved, claims Daihatsu, which took the lead in the Terios-Rush project and manufactures the Low SUV for both brands.
The Terios is powered by a 1.5 litre Dual VVT-i unit with 104 PS and 136 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. The 2NR-VE has been in the Toyota Avanza and Daihatsu Xenia since 2015, and is the same engine we get in the current Perodua Myvi.
The seven-seater is 4,435 mm long and 1,695 mm wide, which is 18 mm shorter and 40 mm narrower than the Honda BR-V, although its 2,685 mm wheelbase is 23 mm longer. Ground clearance is a high 220 mm, which is a valuable feature in Indonesia (BR-V 201 mm). Cabin length is up by 170 mm, which increases tandem distance by 45 mm (distance between first and second rows) and cargo area length by 150 mm.
The Terios will be the basis for Perodua’s upcoming new SUV, but it won’t be a simple rebadge. “We have the capability to do our own upper body design. So, the platform may be shared, certain chassis related things might be shared, but when it comes to the final appearance and styling, it will be unique to Malaysian requirements,” Perodua Sales MD Datuk Dr Zahari Husin told paultan.org in June.

This car as well as Avanza already available in Thailand, Indonesia and Philippines for some time now. Why Malaysia still doesn’t have it?
Malaysia is a dumping ground for old models. Look at Honda City is already out but we will only get it in 2 or 3 years time.

I have full confidence with P2’s design capabilities when it comes to our version of the upper body design. The engineers won’t let us down.
Having said that, I will shoot them if they don’t have LED DRL’s when the new P2 Kembara launches.

Good luck to perodua if they bring in this rear wheel drive spring avanza in and sell at 75k MYR. This is not a proper little suv like the kembara, this is more like a van with fake suv body. I understand P2 have no talent and expertise in developing own SUV. They should focus on developing a new alza model under 65k.
So Toyota Rush not selling well in Malaysia already, Perodua will be the place to dump all the old techs and chassis to be rebadged as a “brand new” SUV. If selling below 50k for the top spec, can still be considered. Higher than 50k is a rip-off for a ladder-framed design that can be traced back more than 14 years ago to the first Avanza.
wish perodua SUV auto version to position handbrake and gear level the same as Alza design to make room for more flexible storagebox and as armrest..full identical spare tyre as new myvi..

Well, it looks ugly & certainly not gonna be so safe in corners as it is tall & narrow. BR-V is still a better bet only thing is that it only has 2 AirBags & this one (RUsh) comes with 6airbags as standard..
