GIIAS 2018: Daihatsu Boon Active wears an SUV dress

After showing you the Myvi with Daihatsu badges at the 2018 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), here’s the Myvi that might have been, had Perodua not went its own way.

This is the Daihatsu Boon Active, a dressed up Boon that was displayed at the Tokyo Auto Salon earlier this year. As hinted at by the name, the compact hatchback gets an SUV makeover, and wears a range of exterior add-ons inspired by off-roaders. Black cladding on the lower body, front and rear “skid plates”, overfenders and roof rails are present. There are also large fog lamp surrounds that are repeated at the back.

The Boon Active wears a bright blue dress like a secondary school girl, accented with orange wings on the front and rear logos. Orange bits can be found on the fenders and wheel outline, too. There’s an overload of the matching blue in the interior.

The Boon Active is based on the more angular Boon face – there’s a cuter Boon Cliq version with teardrop-shaped headlamps. The Boon range is powered by the 1KR-FE Topaz Neo 1.0 litre engine with 69 PS and 92 Nm. The DVVT three-cylinder unit is mated to a CVT automatic and auto start-stop is standard. As is the norm in Japan, 4WD is available.
