FIRST LOOK: Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan in M’sia

The W177 Mercedes-Benz A-Class Sedan is now on sale in Malaysia, and the fully-imported (CBU) model is available in two flavours – the A 200 Progressive Line and A 250 AMG Line. They are priced at RM229,888 and RM267,888 respectively, and included in the price is a four-year, unlimited-mileage warranty.

Noteworthy exterior features include the standard LED High Performance headlights (not the top-spec Multibeam units) with auto high beam, 18-inch alloys and visible exhaust exits, whereas the cabin gets the full A-Class treatment, complete with a large freestanding display panel, round turbine-style air vents, as well as a 64-colour ambient lighting system with 10 colour themes.

For engines, the A 200 is powered by a 1.33 litre M282 four-cylinder turbo engine that makes 163 hp and 250 Nm of torque. It’s paired to a new Getrag seven-speed wet dual clutch transmission, enabling a zero to 100 km/h sprint time of 8.1 seconds and a top speed of 230 km/h. The combined fuel consumption rating is 5.4 litres per 100 km.

Meanwhile, the A 250 gets a 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine, churning out 224 hp and 350 Nm. It hits the 100 km/h mark in 6.3 seconds, reaches a top speed of 250 km/h and has a combined fuel consumption rating of 6.3 litres per 100 km. It also gets a dual-clutch (wet clutch) transmission, although it’s Mercedes’ own unit.

Both models ride on comfort suspension, with passive dampers and a 15 mm lower ride height than standard. The A 250 is the only one to come with multilink rear suspension, whereas the A 200 receives a new, simpler torsion beam setup. Safety-wise, all models get seven airbags, Active Brake Assist (autonomous emergency braking), a tyre pressure monitoring system and Active Parking Assist with a reverse camera.

Most affordable sedan in Merc lineup, yet most expensive FWD car currently sold in Malaysia.

10 years ago, the E200 in Malaysia, yes, the E class was this price.

The E class the past 10 years have gone down in price in Europe.

In Malaysia, A class have now become E class price

A250 at RM270k is ridiculously high. MBM must start reducing their prices. Don’t be greedy. A250 is considred entry level Mercedes in most countries in the world.

Parts also cost so expensive because MBM want to maximize margins. Just like the Mercedes Hybrid battery at RM130k, then overnight, after netizens protested, became RM55k.

If there were no protest, imagine the margins MBM is making

Why 4 years warranty? Because the plastics used in the engine compartment will be brittle and cracked resulting in oil, water and air leaks that needed replacing (just after warranty)!

  • Robbers n treating the consumers as d.s … A class and CLA are budget Benz yet still priced at heavenly prices! Worst of all if it’s not even CBU… Space like viva and plastic feel. Being high 2+ for A then C can soon be 3+. Let’s start printing our own currency

Wait for the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe which will be the direct competitor to this A Class sedan.

Interior bottom half and all door panels looks drab and cheap. But I guess they still have the edge with that large screen that goes across the dash. I’m not a fan of MB but the exterior is pleasant to look at compared to others. Smarter choice is to wait until 2021 for the all new model.
