The 2022 edition of the paultan.org Premium Auto Car Expo (PACE) is now just days away, as it is due to take place at the Setia City Convention Centre (SCCC) this weekend of March 19 to 20.
Motorcycling enthusiasts will be glad to know that the two-wheeler genre is represented in the field of premium automobiles at PACE 2022, and BMW Motorrad is one of the motorcycle brands that will be present at the expo. Among the models featured by the German marque will be the R 18 Classic, which brings a variation on the R 18 motorcycle platform.
Packing BMW Motorrad’s largest-displacement boxer-twin engine yet, the R 18 Classic is endowed with a 1,802 cc of swept capacity which yields a peak power figure of 91 hp at 4,750 rpm and 158 Nm of torque at 3,000 rpm. Beyond just an impressive peak torque figure, the bulk of it is available from 2,000 to 4,000 rpm for easy access to thrust.
Where the R 18 First Edition is specified with a 19-inch front wheel, the R 18 Classic sets itself apart from its stablemate by using a 16-inch front wheel. The R 18 Classic can be adorned with a host of accessories, too; one can specify equipment including a windshield, passenger seat as well as removable panniers.
While its aesthetics are inspired by tradition, the R 18 is endowed with modern conveniences as standard, such as cruise control and LED front fog lamps. There are a trio of ride modes, too, here named “Rain”, “Roll” and “Rock” for their increasing levels of exuberance. Harnessing that exuberance is a chassis comprised of a telescopic fork in front, and a rear monoshock that is adjustable for preload and compression.
Brakes come courtesy of a pair of four-piston calipers on 300 mm discs, and the rear wheel gets a single four-piston and 300 mm-disc combination, both kept in check with BMW Motorrad ABS. Seat height on the R 18 Classic is a manageable 710 mm, while fuel is contained in a 16-litre tank. Completing the cruiser aesthetic is the Black Storm Metallic paintwork, joined by white hand-painted pinstriping.
BMW Motorrad is one of the motorcycle brands that will be present at PACE 2022, along with Harley-Davidson. These join a host of brands including BMW and MINI (represented by Auto Bavaria), Mercedes-Benz (represented by Hap Seng Star), Volkswagen, Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover, Ford and Hyundai.
