Malaysia Airlines MAS) will be conducting its first sustainable aviation fuel-powered flight at the beginning of next month, when Boeing 737-800 commercial passenger aircraft will be flying from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore via MH603 and from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur via MH606 on June 5, 2022.
The twin-engined passenger aircraft on these flights will be fuelled with a blend of approximately 38% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and conventional jet fuel. The sustainable component of the fuel is made from 100% renewable waste and residue raw material such as cooking oil, and can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional fossil-based jet fuel, according to Malaysia Airlines.
The partnership between MAS and Petronas saw the completion of the inaugural flight using sustainable aviation fuel last December when flight MH7979 by an Airbus A330-200 departed from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol on December 17, 2021 and arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on December 18, 2021, using the same blend of SAF.
The inaugural flight using SAF marked the national air carrier’s commitment towards using a cleaner and more viable energy option for regular flights by 2025, and was made possible through a supply deal between Petco Trading (UK) Ltd, Petronas’ marketing and trading arm in Europe and Neste, leading producer of renewable diesel and SAF refined from waste and residues.
Petronas aims to enter the biofuels space with a greenfield biorefinery, while co-processing at existing Petronas facilities is also on the cards. The biorefinery aimed to be ready for start-up in 2025, and will have the operationaly flexibility to supply hydrogenated vegetable oil (HVO) or renewable diesel, in addition to SAF.

Meanwhile our diesel going to B20 is facing stiff opposition from carmakers and brandholders. Lol
Airfare got cheaper than AA onot?
Got tell the passengers before issuing ticket that this flight is the first in the country using so called a blend of recycled cooking oil and waste? Keke. I would definitely opt for the conventional one for this one.
Have u contributed anything useful to care for mother nature? Yes or no you will one day be turn to dust
AA fares can be cheap but be prepared to be abandoned abroad as they will cancel if the flight is not profitable.
