Another case of stationary cars being rammed by a heavy vehicle, this time with fatalities. Four people were killed when a container truck skidded and crashed into a towing vehicle that was in the midst of lifting a stalled Proton Exora on the roadside at Km 135.7 of the East Coast highway (LPT) in the direction towards Kuantan.
The accident, which happened on Saturday, saw the Exora being plunged into a 13 metre-deep ravine on the side of the highway from the force of the impact. A Proton Waja, which stopped at the scene, was also damaged in the collision. Two elderly people and a teenage boy in the MPV, as well as a LPT worker operating the tow truck, died on the scene, Berita Harian reported.
State fire and rescue department (JBPM) press officer, Zulfadli Zakaria, said eight other individuals, who were also riding in Exora were seriously injured in the crash. Additionally, another individual from the towing crane lorry as well as four individuals from the Waja were also injured in the incident. Meanwhile, the container truck driver did not suffer any injury.
It is not known what caused the trailer lorry to crash into the three other vehicles, but the incident is just another in a list of such occurrences that have taken place in recent times. Earlier this month, 11 vehicles were damaged when a trailer lorry crashed into them at a traffic light intersection in Shah Alam.
In July, a lorry ploughed into queuing vehicles at the Causeway, Singapore-bound. The same month, there was an accident on the PLUS highway where a cement lorry crashed into some cars and skipped into the opposite direction. Back in April, a lorry with faulty brakes ploughed through five cars at the Menora tunnel stretch on the North-South Expressway (NSE).
In this most recent case, was it human error, or malfunctioning equipment on a vehicle, that caused the mishap? Whatever the case may be, four people have needlessly lost their lives, and the question must be, how many more will suffer the same fate if proactive steps to ensure change aren’t taken?
The rules and regulations governing commercial vehicles, involving mandatory inspection, maintenance and the enforcement aspects, are all in place, but determining why lorry accidents continue to occur remains elusive. Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Seems like the Exora is overloaded, 11 people(3 died & 8 injured) in the car which only have seating capacity of 7.
Container/ large commercial trucks mandatory ADAS 3.0
Aiyah..brudder.
Biasa lah.Have u seen 3 on a kapchai in front of Sekolah Rendah ?
Father, mother, primary school kid..all no helmets.
Rules r meant to be broken in Bolehland, not obeyed.
Only 3? Regularly see 4-5 (2adults, the rest small kids) on kapchais… Crazy
The problem here LPT is a very nice, smooth and rather straight lane highway. Many times I travel and see cars going past 160-180kmph. Yep it is that good but it becomes a danger when it rains and this is probably what caused the truck to skid and lose control. Sometimes too good is a bad thing.
And yet the MOT is still quiet about this.
He no need say anything, his actions louder than words

Honestly if Anthony Loke was still the transportation minister we’d be seeing big changes by now. This wee ka siong same breed with sabri, all sleepy don’t do work eat and sleep while eat money.
At this point we as ordinary people only hope that the lorry in the traffic are operating well and get back home safely.
I really hope that Datuk Wee Ka Siong can wake up and taking action instead of just randomly doing checks on Puspakom.
Asking VVIP Wee to wake up..r u kidding me?
If his kementrian is properly organised n functioning,he can have uninterrupted sleep.Dont disturb our YB.
It is like a war general in hell hole ukraine.
If his strategies r well planned n executed, the General may not be “visible”,but results will be achieved.
Wait, the Exora was actually carrying 11 persons??
3 in the Exora died & 8 injured?
It’s still looks like the container driver fault but all passengers have to get out from the vehicle when waiting for a car to be towed.
Never wait in the car even if its parked in the emergency lane.
Not only that. All people should be standing behind the Armco barrier if there exist one.
another big company truck KO.
Malaysia still lack of improved Inspection and Maintenance Policy.
Road Transport Act/Puspakom need to be review and audit and upgrade.
kebelakangan ini….mereka memandu terlalu laju….melebihi had laju yang sepatutnya….
Total Lost.
Rest in Peace.
It’s time to mandate ADAS to commercial vehicles.
Please put a speed limiter 60kmh.
Too often these lorry speed by way above 110kmh
We should follow japan where all drivers of commercial vehicles are mandatory to do a pre and post drug test before taking and upon surrendering the vehicle. Also do not allow these drivers to drive more than 10 hours shift, and ensure breaks in between.
lol you look at wee ka siong and saravanan and sabri, all pro in goyang kaki and eat salary money. Will never happen under these lazy pigs
Calling MIROS. Please provide detailed study of crash and any resolution.
What caused the truck driver to smash into the stalled vehicle? Sleepiness? Darkness? We have seen the similar incident before – near USJ-Putra Height Elite Highway. Any truck drivers who can share their experiences of near-miss incident?
many possibilities, among them :
1. the highway worker also kerja main-main, they most usually to lazy to follow SOP, if any emergency happens in the emergency lane. They failed to put warning cone in sufficient distance from the emergency site. Compare it with PLUS or PROPEL worker, they are good! they put enough warning for any harzard infront of you.
2. Lorry or Bus Driver are either too fast ! or too sleepy to be on alert state.
3. There’s simply not enough truck stop for all sleepy truck to stop at highway stretch during the night or day. Govt should consider expanding or creating more specially built trucker stop like in US or Europe highway, just for trucker to have a proper rest before continuing their journey to their destination! there’s too make truck on the highway , but too little truck stop for all the truckers.
But…but… drink driving is more evil lol, all because of racism. Why not MOT publish a report on which vehicle or action kill more people on the road per year, the result will surprise you.
These Large Vehicles especially Lorries and Busses are often seen driving far above speed limit, mostly have GPS installed but no enforcement. Firstly we need to eliminate bribery in our country because there is no one specific department which can we dismiss not involved. Secondly, all vehicles must have mandatory Road Flash Lights in case any emergency to keep other road users notified. Enough of deaths… heartbreaking.. Condolences to the family and RIP to deceased
With the Malaysian culture of “Cash is King”, “You help me, I help you”, or “Tidak apalah” this kind of mishaps will carry on and on.
Each time i am on highway, i see that these big trucks are on the speed limit over what being restricted. All heavy trucks should just stick to their speed limit(not highway speed limit, but their vehicle limit) and no take over. Highway patrol should take action on them, fine, suspend their licence if breach!!!
Msia has lack of standards in so many areas. Low pay, lack of proper training and road etiquette…can’t blame the drivers, tidak apa Msia boleh attitudes have only resulted in unnecessary loss of lives…only the system is to be blamed.
I dont think it is Exora… base on picture… lokk the tail lamp and tyre rim… sure it was Proton Waja… which are 3 star rating… Paultan please change the misleading title.
