The customs department seizes vehicles very often and we no longer bat an eyelid when it comes to supercars or luxury cars, but images of JKDM’s latest haul immediately jumped out – is this the most unique batch of seized vehicles ever?
Just from Bernama’s three pictures alone, we see a Ford GT40, a classic first-generation Ford Mustang, a Volkswagen Kombi and a Mazda RX-7 FD. The red GT40 is probably a kit car rather than an original, but this is quite a haul. There are also two adventure bikes – the Honda CRF1100L Africa Twin and a KTM 1290 Adventure.
According to customs, they seized 41 cars and big bikes worth over RM11 million, brought into Malaysia without valid import documents. Besides the models mentioned above, the haul also included more common cars such as the modern Mustang, a Mini Clubman and everyone’s favourite grey SUV and MPV from Toyota – Harrier and Vellfire. Bikes not pictured include a Honda CB1100 and a Harley Davidson.
Customs central zone assistant director-general Mohammad Sabri Saad said the vehicles were seized following a special operation named Ops Bearing, which started on August 15 to detect vehicles brought in without valid documents. The vehicles reached Port Klang from Japan, US and UK, he said.
“Based on our investigations, some of these vehicles were brought in by students. They might not have been aware that they needed to have an approved permit (AP) before bringing the vehicle in,” he said, adding that ignorance of the country’s laws is no excuse, reported by The Star.
The department has started investigations under Section 135 of the Customs Act for attempting to import prohibited items. The unpaid duties for the seized vehicles are at least RM7.12 million.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Most important question, what is the custom going to do with these seized cars?? Please be transparent. Janagn sendiri sapu harta orang lain. Haram
They’ll open a public bidding in due time…
Yup. Kastam should give back all those they rampas from Najib. Haram.
No pics of that Mustang? I’m disappointed. Moving on… it would be a huge tax haul by the Kastam I wonder if the original owner could buy back their cars if they paid the taxes.
Let students bring back their cars no tax laaa. The brain drain is so bad you dont need to exasperate it further.
Going overseas to study is already an entitlement and typically those offsprings of the entitled class. You want tax free so the entitled kids gets more entitlements?
Entitled how? gov paid for them or parents paid for them?
If Govt paid them, do you think they could afford for a Mustang or Harley? Think again lah.
Should just confiscated and crush
No AP? No problem. Just buy them back during seized property auction.
But imagine spending RM 100,000 to buy this car then having to spend another RM 100,000 to outbid others when an AP just goes for RM 50,000. Penny wise pound foolish.
i want that rx7
real gt40 or replica
Original Ford GT40, not a replica.
Those cars are all legal actually. Brought into Malaysia with paid taxes & legit AP’s. But M’sian Customs had other ideas just to make nuisance towards dealer who brought those cars in for their customers.
