PDRM’s new Black Mamba team to combat traffic jams

The Bukit Aman JSPT (traffic investigation and enforcement department) of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has formed Team Black Mamba to aid traffic flow and reduce congestion during the Hari Raya Aidiladha season, Sinar Harian has reported.

Team Black Mamba is a rebranding of a JSPT task force that is comprised of officers and team members from the 42 Squad, which is the police department’s intelligence and operations unit. said the director of Bukit Aman JSPT Datuk Seri Mat Kasim Karim.

This is a specially trained unit that is skilled in carrying out a range of duties involving several elements within the JSPT, and assets involved include high-powered motorcycles, he added.

Comprised of two senior officers and 22 members with assets including high-powered motorcycles, Team Black Mamba carries out tasks such as surveillance of elements involving traffic offences, planned operations, escort duties, observation, patrols and enforcement, the Bukit Aman JSPT director said.

Road users are reminded to focus on safety aspects in order to avoid accidents and to comply with road rules for the safety of themselves and other road users, while the frequency of enforcement and monitoring helps to ensure that road users comply with road rules, he said.

So are they there to ease traffic jams or catch those speeding, driving on the emergency lane?

Current situation looks like population increase in motor vehicles is more than humans and you can’t create more roads to accommodate them and scrapping old motor vehicles is common throughout the world.

        Really???
        Common???
Of 195 countries on earth, how common is it?

Vehicles only create congestion when there are too many of them using the same road at one time. They dont create jam while parking at home or work place.
Scrapping old cars just to be replace by a new car will not bring down the number thus wont solve the issue.

Back to the article, it looks like a half hearted effort by PDRM to rival JPL Falcon squad.

True. Scrap old motor vehicles or charge them higher road tax to maintain their vintage cars… Just exactly like Singapore.

most vintage cars are going to be in storage or only appear at shows. why tax these??

since the country has gone into point of no-return for building massive amount of trunk roads and highways, should just increase the toll for those major roads only. just leave the cars alone..

A big question mark on “HOW”? I am not being sceptical to what the police is saying, just wonder what is the strategy we can learn.
Cutting queue or using the emergency lane is wrong, I agree with that. But it gets me thinking, if those who cut queue are also queuing at the back, wouldn’t the queue / the jam is even longer? By asking this question, I am not encouraging Malaysian to cut queue, but just to bring up a controversial moral question.
Traffic jam is cause by the essential issue of urban planning, which Malaysia is weak on that (same goes to most countries in ASEAN, maybe the world). Just point out a few problems: (1) People are encouraged to take LRT/MRT/KTM, but the parking at the station is not able to cater the volume. (2) E-hailing service avoid to pick up during rush hour. Means you cannot relay on that service. (3) With both the above aide is failing, big corporations are still allow to setup the main office in the central of the city. That will continues to build up more jam in the future.
    God bless.

For the past 6 months. I’ve been caught in a jam (or slow-to-crawl traffic) several times around Seremban’s Highway. Most of the time caused by Safety Cars (3 in a horizontal line) intentionally driving around the said highway slowly blocking the highway.

Always wondered the purpose and practicality of that….

Many years ago ,highway jam is due to accidents.
Nowadays the jam is due to :
    1) slow moving vehicles occupy the right fast lanes
    2) Beakdown vehicles parked at the road shouders. Recommend highway authority to cover the said broken down vehicles with standard bright plastics WITH RED LIGHT so that the on coming drivers know they are REALLY STOPPING and won’t comeout to their lanes.
    3) Erect center partition along center divider of the highway so that either sides of the drivers cannot see what is happening at the opposite drive ways .Normally opposite drive ways jam ( due to break down vehicles etc…),our ‘keh poh’ drivers on this side would slowdown also to have a look even though nothing is happening on 5heir side of the drive ways.

To ease the traffic… That is to redirect vehicles into using trunk road? To convoy vehicles using EMERGENCY lane? Or just to put in addition vehicles into highways?…. Wondering, wondering, wondering….

Most traffic jams and road accidents are causes by slow-moving motorists occupying the fast lane and not moving left after overtaking. This leads to a long tail of cars behind, with some exasperated motorists overtaking these slow vehicles on the left.
These slow-moving motorists blatantly ignore the cars behind them who honked, flash lights and wth right turn signals on. The Police and JPJ must issue them summons for obstructing traffic. Most of these slow moving offenders are driving low-powered or underpowered vehicles which cannot keep up with Traffic Speed.

Should have several highway patrol signalling slow moving vehicle to the far left. 110 k stay in the middle. Let the fast cars plow through on the right. Hope they can execute this in a safe manner.
