MBPJ’s two-hour public parking bays have reached Damansara Uptown, the bustling commercial centre of SS21 Damansara Utama. This writer saw something unusual at his usual lunch spot, and there they were, the orange-painted parking bays with the ‘2 Jam Sahaja’ markings, as seen in PJ State.
A check with the community Facebook page showed that an announcement of the two-hour parking bays went up yesterday, and signboards with the fees and regulations have been erected in front of RHB Bank.
Parking in the orange boxes will cost one 60 sen per half hour or any part of it, and the enforcement hours are from Monday to Friday, 8am to 6.30 pm. It’s free on weekends and public holidays. Payment is only via the Smart Selangor Parking app and you’ll have to select two-hour parking in the app, as the rate is different.
The point of two-hour parking, which is also being implemented by Subang Jaya and Shah Alam local councils, is to prevent precious public parking bays in busy commercial areas from being hogged. The rule is that cars must leave the lot after two hours and can only return one hour after the original time slot expired – you can’t just reverse and drive in again.
A good thing for Uptown? Perhaps, but maybe double parking is a bigger issue in this square. Also, only one parking app is supported, in contrast to MBSJ and MBSA’s multi-app support. Locals, what do you think? Inform your friends and neighbours.

Damansara Uptown is well-known for it’s double parkers. There are ample and affordable parking spaces in Starling Mall and also the indoor multi-storey parking lots adjacent to it. And yet people, I would say mostly young drivers who could easily walk further, take the easy way to inconvenience others. If you honk at them to remove the double parked car, you will not get an apology or even an acknowledgement of guilt. They are the most entitled people you will meet. Go there to experience it yourself. Better to just standby tow trucks to tow double parked cars to faraway places to teach them a lesson.
This is why we need a few tow-trucks to be on standby. Better still, make tow-truck hotline visible everywhere. And clamp those parking on yellow-line
Most double parkers drive big cars. Peti sejuk, marsili and beemer.
oh no! shop owners and employees cannot hog those parking lot anymore! Thank goodness they already chup some parking lots aka private rental painted red parking lot ok.
GOOD
Kesian Damansaraites. Time to UBAH!
kesihatan diri anda dahulu…
Finally this policy applied in Damansara Uptown. This has been a horrible place to get a carpark slot for long time. Most of the parking lots were occupied by the shop workers which makes customer find it very inconvenient to shop around this place. Yes, it is lucky that the Starling mall got plenty of car park but sometimes the shop we wanted to go is 300m away. It is still not so convenient to park inside the mall and walk over to the place if given a choice there are available outdoor lot.
2-hours parking should applied in more places.
Bravo, MBPJ! You are doing much better than DBKL. Across the LDP Highway from Uptown, there is a cowboy town called Taman Tun Dr Ismail, where anyone can park any where, any time.
Good. In oversea like NZ they have short stays for free too. Limitation parking hr is very good choice also please prepare a loading bay for lorries. Lorries here when they want to load or unload things from the truck they could stop at anywhere they like too. As a results created a massive jam. Bandaraya should prepare a loading point for truck. I believe everywhere in Msia, trucks driver can stop at any place where they want to unload/load up things.
