Geely Galaxy Starship 7 unveiled – 1.5L plug-in hybrid

The Chinese ministry of industry and information technology has unveiled details of the Geely Galaxy Starship 7, which has been disclosed to feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

This will be powered by a 1.5 litre BHE15-BFN engine that outputs 110 hp and a single electric drive motor, powered by a lithium-iron phosphate battery pack that will be supplied by either Svolt or Sunwoda Electronic, according to Car News China.

The Galaxy Starship 7 will measure 4,740 mm long, 1,905 mm wide and 1,685 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,755 mm, and the PHEV may be specified with a choice of 18- or 19-inch wheels; approach and departure angles are 18 and 20 degrees, respectively.

Specifications of the Galaxy Starship 7 as disclosed by the Chinese government filing show that the crossover can be optioned with a panoramic sunroof, roof cargo rails, rear windscreen wiper, side skirt trim, rear-facing radar and external cameras.

Geely rolled out the Galaxy Starship Concept at Auto China 2024 in Beijing earlier this year, previewing a flagship SUV model that serves as a showcase for a suite of artificial intelligence technologies. and the model is built on the manufacturer’s Global Intelligent New Energy Architecture (GEA).

While the productionised Galaxy Starship 7 is a five-seater, the Galaxy Starship Concept gets a 2-1-2 three-row seating layout that features a single centre seat in the second row and a bench seat in the third row. The Galaxy Starship Concept is said to feature next-generation NordThor PHEV powertrains that is claimed to offer a total range of over 2,000 km.

According to Tycho de Feijter on X/Twitter, the Galaxy Starship 7 will be positioned above the Galaxy E5, and will be launched in the Chinese market in the fourth quarter of this year. The Galaxy E5 provides the basis for the upcoming Proton eMas 7 that was previewed in Malaysia last month, and this will go on sale in Malaysia by the end of 2024.

The Galaxy E5 is also named EX5 for global markets including Thailand, Indonesia and Australia, and the SUV will therefore be sold in these markets as a Geely model.
