The wait is almost over – SAIC Motor Malaysia will be launching the MG5 sedan this evening, and you can watch the launch live on Facebook at 5.30 pm. Previewed in Malaysia back in August, the ‘Civic-sized, City-priced’ vehicle will be fully imported (CBU) from Thailand and is expected to carry a sub-RM100k price tag.
Considering its 4,675 mm length, 1,842 mm width, 1,480 mm height and 2,680 mm wheelbase, the MG5 is pretty much C-segment-sized, but the company is choosing to market it as a B-segment sedan, deeming it the largest in its class.
Under the bonnet is expected to be a naturally-aspirated 114 PS/150 Nm 1.5 litre four-cylinder petrol engine, with an eight-virtual ratio CVT sending drive to the front wheels. Kit as previewed included LED DRLs, auto headlamps, a sunroof, 17-inch ‘Tomahawk’ alloys, a seven-inch digital instrument panel and a 10.25-inch central touchscreen incorporating Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and a 360-degree camera suite.
Stay tuned as we bring you later today the full low-down on SAIC’s third MG to hit Malaysia – meanwhile, more details can be found in our preview story.
