Selangor MB proposes West Coast Expressway be extended to KL International Airport to benefit region

Selangor chief minister Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has proposed that the West Coast Expressway be extended to to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang, reported the Selangor Journal.

The extension of the expressway would benefit the region, including Port Dickson in Negeri Sembilan, said the state’s chief minister, who is also Gombak MP.

“In my opinion, it would be beneficial if this extension could reach KLIA as well. Not only would this benefit others, but it would also enhance our entire network, leading to faster transportation, economic growth, and improved development in the region, especially in the integrated development region in South Selangor,” Amirudin said.

First announced in 2014 for Budget 2015, the West Coast Expressway – along with Federal Route 5 (FR5) – spans a combined length of 275.8 km, and is expected to be fully completed in 2026.

The highway saw the opening of alignments in Bandar Bukit Raja as well as in Hutan Melintang, Lekir and Changkat Chermin in Perak since May 2019, which has increased traffic flow by 60% in 2023. Section 1, the southernmost section of the highway was launched on August 30.

Why don’t you attach a map to show this road? Not many like me (jobless) can afford to buy a Malaysia map to find where the road starts and end. Thanks

This YAB Amir is a politician for quite a while b4 being MB.Why cant he lobby for this earlier?
Now, if u do this add ons,it will incur huge land acquisition costs at current market rate .Who is willing to bear such costs? Selangor govt ?
Can u imagine the horror of land owners who have development plans for their real estate, sudddenly to have a last minute highway slicing thro?
Come on,the rakyat deserve some respect, protection of their real estates. Not some last minute fanciful grand idea of VVIPs.

Should connect all the way to second link, linking all the west coast ports.

It should have been like that from the start. As to why they decided to start it from Sg Manggis (Banting) is mind boggling and defy logic.

  • WCE should be extended all The way to second link TUAS. And they should make it 6 lanes from the start.

    This idea is very good.
Highway transportation will definitely spur economic growth.
And not forgetting MRT and LRT to reach down south to areas such as Bangi, Beranang, Batang Benar, Nilai, too.
