Nissan Kicks e-Power to debut in Malaysia in Dec

The Nissan Kicks e-Power will be making its Malaysian debut in December, as confirmed by Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM) in a series of social media posts. The company didn’t provide an exact date for the hybrid model’s introduction but there is a possibility it will coincide with this year’s Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show happening in the same month.

We’ll be getting the facelifted, first-generation Kicks – the same as in Thailand – and not the second-generation model that made its debut in the United States earlier in March. For those unfamiliar with Nissan’s e-Power technology, the hybrid system features a 1.2 litre naturally-aspirated inline-three petrol engine that acts solely as a generator for a 2.06-kWh battery, with no mechanical connection to the wheels.

As the engine only serves to generate energy for the battery and operates under fixed conditions, Nissan says it is able to consistently achieve a high level of thermal efficiency for improved fuel efficiency while reducing tailpipe emissions.

Energy from the battery is used to power a front-mounted electric motor rated at 129 PS and 280 Nm of torque, which is good for a 0-100 km/h time of 9.5 seconds. Meanwhile, the claimed combined fuel consumption is 21.7 km per litre. The Kicks e-Power will join the hybrid SUV market here that currently includes models like the HR-V e:HEV as well as Corolla Cross Hybrid.

Tan Chong Motor should be renamed Siput Motor. So slow, second gen Kicks already launched la, but they wanna launch the first gen Kicks instead. All Nissan models here are outdated, previous gen X Trail, prefacelift Almera, previous gen Serena. Give Nissan to other company la, can bring in more interesting models.

2022 model, latest one with Gen 2 e-power actually. The one in America is a non e-power ICE vehicle, I had a drive with a friend car it’s surprising good.

  • The vehicle is old, this generation having first gone on sale in August 2016 in Brazil.

But there are other similarly aged products on the Malaysian market like the current generation CX-5 (since December 2016 in Japan).

So perhaps there is some method to the madness of only now launching the Kicks in Malaysia. Albeit unlike the the CX-5 which launched in a timely matter, didn’t have the disadvantage of being labelled as old when first launched and built a relatively positive impression among Malaysian, contributing factors to why the CX-5 still garner sales… the Kicks doesn’t have these going for it.

This is actually the second-gen KICKS, the latest one with e-POWER. There’s a new generation after this but that is ICE only.

  • I jokingly think TCM was looking at their declining sales, realized selling the latest products in a timely manner ain’t working out (B17 Slyphy, N18 Almera) and decided going back to their roots of extended product life of Nissans was best. Think Nissan Vanette, Sunny, N16 Sentra.

What a pity, old model. I am in the market for a small SUV and this Kick would have been a perfect size. Sorry Nissan, I am puzzled with your business strategy. What made you think Malaysians are that stupid to buy an old model?

Old model. High price. Very likely. As usual by TCM.

Possibly another flop. Price likely above 115k. Too high for such dated model. Perrrgh.

2024 abit early to release this car, why don’t release in year 2026 so we can celebrate 10 years design car as new technology?

Nissan salesman can proudly tell everyone this car is tested 10 years ago only been release in Malaysia
