More than 90% of MyLesen participants have obtained their B2 motorcycle, bus/e-hailing PSV, GDL licences

The transport ministry says that more than 90% of the 35,000 participants in this year’s MyLesen programme have completed their training and obtained licences. Transport minister Anthony Loke said that the rest of the participants in the programme are still undergoing training and testing, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year, Bernama reports.

He said that due to its high demand and benefits, the programme will continue next year. MyLesen was introduced at a national level in May 2023 to aid persons from the B40 income group and youths in obtaining motorcycle licences (Class B2, below 250 cc engine capacity), public service vehicle (PSV) licences for e-hailing and buses, as well as goods driving licences (GDL) for lorries.

“The programme has seen high demand, with the road transport department (JPJ) receiving over 130,000 applications, though only a portion are eligible after screening based on set conditions,” he said during the closing of the Selangor state level MyLesen programme.

He said that in Selangor, 2,175 out of the 2,645 participants have successfully completed the programme and had received their B2, PSV e-Hailing, PSV bus and GDL licences.

Loke added that an increase in participants is anticipated and stated that the ministry is exploring alternatives to secure additional funding, complementing the assistance from the government.
