The Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) has awarded a five-star safety rating to the Leapmotor C10, Zeekr X and Xpeng G6, all of which are electric vehicles (EVs) that are currently on sale in Malaysia.
Referring to ANCAP’s results that are derived from Euro NCAP’s (European New Car Assessment Programme) testing, the Leapmotor C10 managed a score of 89% in the adult occupant protection (AOP) assessment. This is followed by 87% in child occupant protection (COP) as well as 77% in both vulnerable road user protection (VRUP) and safety assist (SA).
The C10 was launched in Australia and New Zealand in November this year and comes standard with autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, emergency lane keeping and a speed assistance system with traffic sign recognition.
As for the Zeekr X, it achieved even higher scores of 91% in AOP, 87% in COP, 84% in VRUP and 84% in SA. Australia welcomed the X in October 2024, and the EV made a strong debut with maximum points for the protection of occupants in the side impact crash test, while the front structure presented a moderate risk to occupants of an oncoming vehicle in the MPDB (mobile progressive deformable barrier) test.
Similarly, the Xpeng G6, which was launched in Australia in October and New Zealand in November, scored well to gain its five-star rating. This includes 88% in AOP, 86% in COP, 81% in VRUP and 80% in SA.
The G6 is the brand’s first offering in these countries, with ANCAP praising the EV’s ability to avoid collisions as it scored high marks for AEB performance with another vehicle, pedestrian, cyclist, and motorcyclist. High scores were also awarded for the G6’s protection of the driver and passenger occupants in the frontal offset, side, and oblique pole test.
