JPJ to impound, forfeit non-compliant commercial vehicles in nationwide ‘Gempur Teknikal’ Special Ops

The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will impound and forfeit commercial vehicles found to be in contravention of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (Act 715) through the nationwide ‘Gempur Teknikal’ Special Ops.

It said in a statement today that action will be taken on owners of offending companies or vehicles under Section 57 of Act 715 for the suspected offence of Melanggar Lesen Pengendali (Violation of Operators’ Licence) – specifically, failing to give high priority to other road users.

If convicted, offenders can be fined between RM1,000 and RM500,000 under said section, and their vehicle(s) can be impounded under Section 80 of Act 715 and be subject to forfeiture.

JPJ says that the nationwide ‘Gempur Teknikal’ Special Ops will focus on the following offences: overloading, technical, documentation, traffic, and technical offences in manufacturing and usage of the vehicles.

The department added that there will be no compromise on commercial vehicle drivers or owners failing to comply with regulations under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333), the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board Act 1987 (Act 334) and the Land Public Transport Act 2010 (Act 715).

The latest in a string of commercial vehicle-related accidents happened three days ago on the North-South Highway (PLUS) near the Ayer Keroh services (R&R), which sadly killed seven and injured 33.
