The Perak road transport department (JPJ) has collected RM2.368 million from the bidding of the ‘ANU’ number plate series over five days from December 19-23, 2024, Bernama reports.
“During this five-day period, a total of 1,768 bidders participated out of 1.99 million registered bidders nationwide. The highest bid was RM269,000 for ‘ANU 1’” said Perak JPJ director Mohammad Yusoff Abustan. Remaining registration numbers that did not receive a bid would be made available to the public at a minimum set price.
Despite the RM2.368 million collected for the ‘ANU’ series, Mohammad Yusoff said the ‘AMG’ series remained the most lucrative. “Previously, ‘AMG’ had recorded a total sales figure of over RM6mil and still holds the record for the highest sales of popular plates,” he said.
On a separate matter, Mohammad Yusoff urged the public to report to the authorities if they come across “cosmetic agents” offering services such as “tyre rentals” for Puspakom inspections. These services are said to be offered on social media, and the department will look into the matter as such services are irresponsible and high-risk as they involve technical issues.
