Xpeng has revealed that it plans to begin local assembly (CKD) of the G6 and X9 in Indonesia in the second half of 2025. The Chinese automaker recently made its entry into the Indonesian market this month, with the aforementioned electric vehicles (EVs) being offered to customers through Erajaya Active Lifestyle (ERAL).
According to Kompas, Xpeng will not set up its own assembly plant in Indonesia but will instead partner with PT Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM), which operates a facility located in Purwakarta, West Java.
“By localising production and integrating supply chains, Xpeng aims to create a community of shared interests in global markets through technology, production capacity and ecosystem partnerships. This will enable the company to provide more efficient, customized solutions to Indonesian consumers as well as other key markets,” Xpeng said in an official release.
Thailand has already welcomed the G6 and X9, with the latter being an electric MPV that will also be launching in Malaysia soon. During the G6’s launch here last August, it was reported that Bermaz Xpeng was exploring the idea of a CKD project here but nothing has been confirmed.
Xpeng says its CKD project in Indonesia will initially focus on the G6 and X9 for the right-hand drive market, although it didn’t mention any export markets. “As Southeast Asia’s largest new car market at the million-unit level and a high-potential market, Xpeng aims to build Indonesia and other markets in the APAC (Asia Pacific) region into its next growth engine, propelling its global success,” the company said.
