Spanco sponsors 55 bikes for Putra Heights victims

Fleet management company Spanco has sponsored 55 Yamaha Ego Avantiz scooters for Putra Heights gas pipeline fire victims as well as road tax and insurance for the first year, reports Bernama, with transport minister Anthony Loke saying Hong Leong Yamaha Motor agreed to reduce the unit price to RM5,000 from the RM5,800 retail.

“In the geran (Vehicle Ownership Certificate), their names are already registered as the owners. So they don’t have to pay anything,” he said, adding that the recipients were mostly residents of Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru, where many motorcycles were damaged.

“Of course this helps them because motorcycles are not only their mode of transportation as some people also need motorcycles to earn a living. So this is another way for us to help them return to normal life as soon as possible,” he said at the recent handover ceremony held at Putra Heights LRT station.

Besides facilitating registrations of the bikes, which all wear MADANI plates, the road transport department (JPJ) distributed free helmets to the recipients.
