Prasarana announced that the free Rapid KL On-Demand van service for Putra Heights gas pipeline fire victims ended yesterday following the closure of the temporary shelter at the Putra Heights mosque.
Since operations started on April 3, over 1,100 people have benefitted from the van service, Prasarana said. The vans ferried victims, volunteers and government agencies from the shelter to residential areas around Putra Heights, Kampung Puchong Tengah and Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru to get necessities and important documents, and to clean up homes.
This initiative under the Prasarana Prihatin programme involved 10 vans and around 50 staff including bus captains, senior traffic control officers, enforcement teams and auxiliary police.
The public transport operator also had five vans acting as school buses, ferrying affected children to 19 schools around Putra Heights, USJ, Seafield and Shah Alam. A total of 103 students rode in the free vans.
