Quite a looker, isn’t it? Here’s another China-only Toyota Beyond Zero (bZ) model – the bZ5. It’s actually the production version of the bZ3C concept from last year’s Beijing show, and is a product of the FAW-Toyota joint-venture.
Like all bZ vehicles, minus the global bZ4X, the bZ5 is BYD-powered – there’s a 272 PS/330 Nm front motor and a Blade LFP battery that charges from 30-80% in 27 minutes. The CLTC range is 630 km, and there’s Level 2 ADAS, nine airbags and 21-inch alloys wrapped in 225/45 rubber. Length, width, height and wheelbase are 4,780 mm, 1,866 mm, 1,510 mm and 2,880 mm respectively.
The very-red interior is otherwise quite run-of-the-mill – 15.6-inch centre touch-screen, small digital instrument panel (placed so high up that it’s almost a head-up display, or Peugeot i-Cockpit style), panoramic roof and rotary gear selector. You also get 10 JBL speakers, nap mode and 256-colour ambient lighting.
Reports out of China suggest the bZ5 is currently on pre-sale, priced between RMB130,000 (RM77k) and RMB160,000 (RM95k). If you like how it looks, you should check out the flagship bZ – we also saw the bZ7 sedan at the show.
