Debuting at Auto Shanghai 2025 is the production-ready Toyota bZ7, an over-five-metre-long EV sedan that’s been developed by Guangzhou Automobile Group Co Ltd (GAC), Guangzhou Toyota Motor Co Ltd (GAC-Toyota) and Intelligent ElectroMobility R&D Center by Toyota (China) Co Ltd (IEM by Toyota).
The sleek beauty (looking very much like the Comfortable Space concept from the 2023 Guangzhou show) will take aim at the likes of the Xiaomi SU7, BYD Han and Luxeed S7 when it goes on sale later this year, becoming the flagship of Toyota’s EV range in China that includes the bZ4X (the only bZ model available globally; all else are China-only), bZ3, bZ3X and bZ5.
Details are still thin at the moment, but according to Drive and Car News China, the bZ7 could be BYD-powered (motor and battery included), just like other bZ models in China.
Sight for sore eyes, isn’t it? Fastback profile, ‘Hammerhead’ face and C-shaped full-width headlamps (tail lamps are also full-width). The interior, while a little generic in design to these eyes, looks like a nice place to be, helped no doubt by the subtle wood inserts on the dash, centre console and door panels. We’re there at Auto Shanghai 2025 and will get you more details as soon as they come.
