Overview
The Toyota Hiace is a commercial van for operators needing either a compact two-seat cargo carrier or a 10-seat long-wheelbase people mover. This Mk5 generation launched in 2006 and remains on sale in Malaysia with diesel power. Prices start from RM123,000 for the Panel Van 2.5 Turbo Diesel.
Hiace in 2026 — what's new
The 2026 Toyota Hiace carries on unchanged. Toyota’s October 2025 Hiace Concept previews a next-generation commercial van with a pillarless side and full-width display, but it is not a Malaysian production update. The 2006-launched Mk5 remains the Malaysian model, sold as the two-seat Panel Van 2.5 Turbo Diesel and the 10-seat SLWB. The SLWB uses a 2.755-litre diesel and automatic transmission.

Which variant to buy
For most cargo-focused buyers, the RM123,000 Panel Van 2.5 Turbo Diesel is the logical Hiace: it has two seats, a manual gearbox and AWD. Pay RM169,000 for the SLWB only if carrying people is central to the job. The RM46,000 gap brings 10 seats, a 2.755-litre 175 hp diesel, RWD and an automatic, against the Panel Van’s 2.494-litre 101 hp diesel. These are two distinct working tools, not merely different trims.

Toyota Hiace buyer's guides & reviews
Verdict
The Hiace gives Malaysian operators a clear split between a two-seat AWD panel van and a 10-seat automatic long-wheelbase model. But it is expensive in its class: the Nissan NV200 starts from RM79,800 and the Maxus V80 from RM102,076, both below even the entry Hiace. Its age is also plain, as Toyota’s 2025 concept points towards a future successor rather than a refresh of this Mk5.
