Car Buyer's Guide

Overview

The Nissan NV200 (M20) is a Commercial-segment van for operators who need a two-seat petrol workhorse with a manual gearbox rather than a passenger-focused MPV. Priced from RM79,800, it sits below the Maxus V80 and Toyota Hiace on price, with a 1.6-litre petrol engine and two body-style choices.

NV200 in 2026 — what's new

There is no 2026-specific update for the Malaysian M20 NV200. The range carries on unchanged with two petrol manual variants: Panel Van 1.6L and Semi-Panel Van 1.6L, both using a 1,598 cc engine with 108 hp and two seats. NV200-nameplate developments have centred on the electric e-NV200 overseas, including 40 kWh battery, camper/workspace concepts and the Townstar EV replacement, not a Malaysian M20 update.

Which variant to buy

Start with the Panel Van 1.6L at RM79,800. It gets the same 1,598 cc, 108 hp petrol engine, manual gearbox and two-seat layout as the Semi-Panel Van 1.6L at RM85,888. On paper, the RM6,088 gap buys the semi-panel configuration rather than extra power, an automatic gearbox or more seats. Pay more only if that body style suits your cargo or business use; otherwise the base Panel Van is the cleaner buy.

Verdict

The NV200 is old, having launched in this generation in 2012, but its brief is clear: petrol engine, manual gearbox, two seats. It also costs less than the same-class Maxus V80 from RM102,076 and Toyota Hiace from RM169,000. But it is not the electric e-NV200, and it does not get the EV developments seen overseas. Buy it for a lower-entry commercial van, not for new-tech appeal.
