BMW shooting brake concept teased for Villa d’Este Concours – long-roofed version of Concept Skytop?

BMW has released teaser images of its upcoming concept car that it will show at the upcoming Villa d’Este Concours. Just the rear end of the concept car has been depicted here, and this appears to combine the tail lamp signature of the Concept Skytop with an angular version of a shooting brake roofline.

That latter design has similarities to the Concept Touring Coupé that was shown the year before the Concept Skytop emerged, in 2023, and that combined a Z4 front end with what appears to be a modern interpretation of the Z3 M Coupé. While the Concept Touring Coupé did not develop beyond a one-off, BMW announced previously that the Skytop would proceed with a limited production run of 50 units.

Although technical details for this shooting brake concept have yet to be officially disclosed, its visual similarities to the Concept Skytop may suggest that sharing its powertrain, which BMW described last year as “the most powerful V8 engine in the BMW drivetrain portfolio,” which was the S63 4.4L biturbo petrol V8 engine that made upwards of 625 PS and 750 Nm in various applications, such as the M8 Competition.

The German manufacturer could be taking a similar approach to gauging public interest in this shooting brake concept as with the Concept Skytop. ““It is a little bit like a test balloon. You show the cars, and if there’s enough demand, it can be built,” BMW design director Adrian van Hooydonk told Autocar last year regarding the Concept Skytop.
