With the 24 Hours of Le Mans coming up soon, McLaren has decided to release a special edition of its 750S to commemorate its victory at the historic endurance race 30 years ago on June 18, 1995. At the time, the F1 GTR #59 driven by JJ Lehto, Yannick Dalmas and Masanori Sekiya won the 24-hour race with three more F1 GTRs in the top five placings.
The new commemorative model is called the 750S Le Mans, and just like the 720S Le Mans from five years ago, it will be limited to just 50 units. For the uninitiated, the 750S is the base for the McLaren GT Evo cars that will compete for LMGT3 honours at this year’s edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The 750S Le Mans pays homage to the #59 car by being finished in Le Mans Grey, which references the livery of the Uneo Clinic-sponsored car that won. Customers can also opt for McLaren Orange, the company’s traditional racing colour.
Each example features a new High-Downforce Kit (HDK) consisting of a much larger splitter, a carbon-fibre rear wing and a new louvred underwing panel that increases downforce by 10% compared to a standard 750S. These are joined by a roof scoop and five-spoke ‘LM’ wheels, the latter referencing the OZ Racing wheels used on the first F1 GTR race cars – the wheel centre caps are red on one side and blue on the other.
Pay more for the track brake upgrade kit and you’ll even get callipers finished in anodised gold similar to the Brembo units on the original race car. As for the interior, buyers can choose from two themes as well as two different bucket seat options with blue five-point harnesses. A range of carbon-fibre parts can also be optioned.
No change to the powertrain, with McLaren’s M840T 4.0 litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine continuing to deliver 750 PS (740 hp or 552 kW) and 800 Nm of torque to the driven wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
