Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo steps down; exits automotive sector to join luxury goods group Kering

Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo has stepped down from his role effective June 15, 2025, and the group’s board of directors has “initiated the process” of appointing a new chief executive officer, the company has announced.

Luca de Meo steps down from the leadership position after five years at the helm of the group, having taken up the role of CEO in July 2020. de Meo arrived at the Renault Group from the Volkswagen Group, where he was chairman of Seat.

de Meo has decided to “pursue new challenges outside the automotive sector,” according to the Renault Group statement. According to an Autocar report citing the Financial Times and French news outlet Le Figaro, de Meo will be named CEO of Kering, a French holding company specialising in luxury goods brands.

“For five years, Luca de Meo has worked to restore Renault Group to its rightful place. Under his leadership, our company has returned to a healthy foundation, boasts an impressive range of products and has resumed growth. Besides being an exceptional captain of industry, Luca de Meo is also a creative, committed, passionate and inspiring individual,” Renault Group chairman Jean-Dominique Senard said in a statement.

“There comes a time in one’s life when one knows the job is done. At Renault Group, we have faced immense challenges in less than five years! We have achieved what many thought impossible. Today, the results speak for themselves: they are the best in our history… I am leaving a transformed company, poised for the future, to apply my experience to other sectors and embark on new adventures,” de Meo said.
