FRU truck crash – court issues arrest warrant for lorry company owner after failure to appear for proceedings

The magistrate’s court in Teluk Intan has issued an arrest warrant for the owner of a lorry company involved in a fatal accident involving nine members of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) on May 13, Bernama has reported.

The arrest warrant was filed by deputy public prosecutor Izzuddin Fakri Hamdan after the individual failed to appear in court for proceedings on two charges, under Section 57 and Section 58 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010. It is understood that the road transport department (JPJ) had issued a summons to the owner of the company to appear in court yesterday for proceedings, according to the report.

The incident last month involved the FRU truck and a lorry carrying sand, when the latter collided into the FRU truck along Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam in Teluk Intan, Perak, The driver of the sand lorry has been detained the police, and has since been found to have six prior offences.

Following the incident, the land public transport agency (APAD) has revoked the operator license of the lorry company involved, effective May 29.

In its investigation, APAD said it found that the company failed to comply with the Industrial Code of Practice safety requirements and had been operating with a non-functional and expired GPS tracking system. The company was also found to be carrying loads that violated the type of goods specified in the vehicle’s permit.
