The Jaecoo J8 is set to be officially launched in Malaysia on July 18, Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia has announced in a Facebook post. The confirmed launch date comes after the D-segment SUV was shown in a number of previews, most recently in March, after its first right-hand-drive prototype showing in June 2024.
The J8 is expected to come to the Malaysian market in two variants – the J8 2WD five-seater that is expected to be in the region of RM195,000, and the J8 AWD six-seater that is configured in a three-row, 2-2-2 layout, which is estimated to be priced around RM220,000.
This is a D-segment SUV set to compete, size-wise, with the likes of the Kia Sorento and the Proton X90, both offering three rows of seats. For exterior dimensions, the J8 measures 4,820 mm long, 1,930 mm wide, 1,699 mm tall with a 2,820 mm wheelbase.
Both versions of the J8 are powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged inline-four petrol engine that outputs 249 PS and 385 Nm, driving either the front wheels or all four (depending on variant) through an eight-speed automatic transmission. The AWD does 0-100 km/h in nine seconds, and a top speed of 200 km/h.
For equipment, Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia has said that the J8 2WD will get a 12-speaker Sony sound system, six airbags, ambient lighting and faux leather upholstery, while the J8 AWD gets upgraded with a 14-speaker Sony sound system including headrest speakers, 10 airbags, power doors and a fragrance system.
The top variant also gets NFC-based keyless entry, leather upholstery, suede-covered trim panels, a ventilation function for the driver’s seat, a built-in digital video recorder, automatic parking function, powered front and second-row seats with massage function, 20-inch alloy wheels and Level 2.5 ADAS.
Interior appointments include wraparound wood trim, silver air vents and a wide centre console, along with a widescreen display panel comprised of dual 12.3-inch displays – a digital instrument cluster and central touchscreen – across the range.
In gaining a third row of seats, the J8 AWD also gets Continuous Damping Control (CDC) adaptive suspension and a water wading depth of 450 mm. However, the trade-off is luggage space, which is 200 litres in the AWD compared to the 738 litres of the J8 2WD.
For exterior colour choices, the J8 2WD can be had in Carbon Crystal Black, Khaki White and Olive Grey, while the J8 AWD gets the same selection albeit as a dual-tone scheme, configured with a black roof.

J8 no longer as cheap as J7 relative to it’s competitors
Give an example of a D segment SUV selling below 200k before letting everyone know you are dumb
back in March/April 2025 before Hyundai directly came into Malaysia in May, I bought at RM172k for Hyundai Santa Fe *4WD* 2.2 turbo-diesel 440Nm 7-seater SUV with full safety spec including lane steering guide.
I have driven Mercedes, Subaru, Mazda, Honda, Toyota, Proton, Kia, Mitubishi… the Santa Fe quietness of cabin, stability of drive beyond 160km/h at low 2000+rpm, and I feel very safe with the full safety feature, the emergency braking, auto adjustment of steering while changing lane to pull away from side incoming car, warning when opening any door if has incoming car passing by, etc all working… I feel really confident with the Hyundai safety assurance. Confident that it will work, even I’m not so confident with the Merz E-Class, maybe it is not so sensitive coz I haven’t experience activating the safety feature
The 1.6 petrol turbo hybrid version also selling at similar price but is 2WD. If looking 2WD 7-seater SUV, then just go for Proton X90 more worth it at RM120k++ only.
Sore losers will buy china cars, kimchi cars and any brands

Whatever you said, but more people will not buy toyota with poor safety from you
J8 Nice spec, however will choose Mazda CX8 for that price point and handling.
No test unit yet and you dare to mention handling. You test drove in your dream? Use your brain if you want to condemn a brand purposely!
Price higher than expected. Was guessing starting 180k but it went almost 10% higher for the 2wd 5 seat ….
