Something new is cooking, so says the BYD Cars Malaysia Facebook page. This should be in reference to the BYD Atto 2 that was teased, albeit not directly, given the attendant capybara in the imagery, following the prior capybara mention from the brand’s communication registrations of interest for the EV.
First unveiled in February 2024 in China as the Yuan Up, the Atto 2 is positioned between the Dolphin and the Atto 3, and made its Thailand debut at the 2025 Bangkok International Motor Show in March this year. The Atto 2 measures 4,310 mm long, 1,830 mm wide, 1,675 mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. By comparison, the Dolphin is 4,290 mm long, 1,770 mm wide, 1,570 mm tall with a 2,700 mm wheelbase.
At its China debut, the Atto 2/Yuan Up was offered in five variants, priced from 96,800 yuan to 119,800 yuan (RM59k and RM73k at the time). This offered a choice of two powertrain options, the first begin a single 95 PS/180 Nm front-mounted motor powered by a 32 kWh battery, and the other being a 177 PS/290 Nm motor powered by a 45.12 kWh battery.
The base-specification 32 kWh battery offers up to 301 km of range on the Chinese domestic CLTC testing protocol, while the larger 45.12 kWh battery offered up to 401 km of range on the same standard as of March; the larger battery is the specification offered outside China, where it gets a WLTP rating of 312 km.
In terms of charging, the Atto 2 with the 32 kWh battery can take up to 45 kW of DC charging, while the 45.12 kWh battery specification can be recharged at up to 65 kW DC, enabling a 10-80% recharge in 37 minutes. Meanwhile, home charging at up to 11 kW AC fully charges the vehicle in 5.5 hours.
More recently, BYD has told Australian press that the Atto 2 will enter the Australian market with two trim levels, both with the 130 kW (177 PS)/290 Nm motor and a larger 51.1 kWh battery. With this battery size, and extrapolating from the 45.12 kWh battery variant’s range estimate of 312 km, the 51.1 kWh battery should offer range in the region of 350 km.
For equipment, the Atto 2 in Thailand gets 16-inch wheels, an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.8-inch rotating infotainment touchscreen and powered front seats. The Atto 2/Yuan Up in China does without active driver assistance systems as standard, though these can be specified as an option.
As for the Malaysian market, BYD Sime Motors has opened registrations of interest for this EV. Keen?

Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
At least new facelift look far more nicer and better than the previous gen, without guitar string and odd interior design…
i know it’s unlikely but it’ll be interesting to see if this will be priced below 100k…
MITI set new CBU EVs price at a minimum of RM100,000 so it will be priced at RM100,499 or something like that
You can expect rebates included for the launch so that it is priced below RM100K. Wheelbase is almost equal to the Chery Tiggo Pro. With an estimated 350KM range, I will take the Tiggo Pro. I will only consider EV if and when the range can hit > 700 km with new battery technologies.
MITI set a minimum price of 100k!?!? What a Kiasu approach!! Proton is more or less half Chinese car so minimum price should be removed totally.
Can sell below 100k?
Even their big dealer in mainland is closing down.
Don’t dream. BYD sold few millions car and increasing sales than last year
You mean second hand cars with zero km?
Not need to be jealous, hater
CKD it and sell the top tier at 100k please.
CKD or local car will be extra charge “OMV” later on, soooo will you think the car will be cheap?
In your dream, this car will be launch soon as CBU will not affect by price hike
That 418km wltp is for 60.48kwh battery that will release soon in uk..not the 51kwh battery..since 45kwh battery rated at 312km,the 51kwh battery should be around 350km wltp..
312 km on China standard, which is, let’s say, not the best or most accurate. On ACTUAL day to day use more like 200 the first year.
312+ km driving range not acceptable range especially if you drive outstation frequently. You are not able to reach KL if driving from Penang. I will not consider EV until when solid state battery with high mileage is available.
Got many get suked in to buying later can cry la.
Best pilihan
BYD will dump price if their vehicles are not so sellable. Atto3 first and 2nd batch owners can testify.
