GAC Aion Y Plus starts from RM95,800 in new ‘Anniversary Mega Offer’ promo – EV below RM100k!

GAC Aion Malaysia has announced a new and lowered price for the GAC Aion Y Plus as part of an ‘Anniversary Mega Offer’ promotion. The distinctive EV is now starting from RM95,800. That’s right, below RM100k after discounts. You say Neta, we say this is a proper car!

The deal includes a free portable charger. The factory warranty offered by GAC Aion Malaysia is eight years or 200,000 km for the EV battery, motor and electronics; and eight years or 160,000 km for the vehicle.

Looking back at our archives, this is a further drop from the previous promo in March-April, when the base Elite variant went for RM103,800 and the Premium was offered at RM119,800 – so this is another RM8,000 off. The March promo figures were RM16,000 less than the Y Plus’ launch RRP, and it’s RM24,000 less now. Terms and conditions apply, of course.

To recap, the Aion Y Plus – a very common sight in Shanghai during our time there in April – is powered by a single front motor producing 204 PS (150 kW) and 225 Nm of torque, enabling it to get from 0-100 km/h in 8.5 seconds. GAC’s 63.2 kWh Magazine Battery 2.0 lithium iron phosphate (LFP) pack delivers a WLTP range of 430 km. Max charging speeds are 80 kW DC and 6.6 kW AC.

Anyway, here’s the state of the current ‘EV price war’ in Malaysia and a timeline of the escalation.

The spark that lit the forest fire, so to speak, was the Proton eMas 7’s introduction in December 2024. The eMas 7’s apparent value for money – RM105,800 for the Prime and RM119,800 for the Premium – prompted BYD to launch the Atto 3 Ultra in April with a price of RM118,800 after an early bird rebate. The Extended Range was launched in December 2022 for RM167,800.

Shortly after that, the Chery Omoda E5 joined the party with a RM27,000 cut to make RM119,818 for 2024 units. This became a RM98,818 clearance sale in May. The electric Omoda was launched in March 2024 for RM146,800.

More recently, smaller players like the GAC Aion Y Plus and Leapmotor C10 also had to drop their RRPs just to remain in the frame. The latter, which has the biggest body gets improved specs and is now priced at RM125,000 – it was launched in October 2024 for RM159,000, or RM149,000 with an early bird discount. There are also 2024 units going for RM110k.

The Proton eMas 7, which was updated last week, is sticking to its RM105,800 to RM119,800 selling price, but those figures include early bird rebates, which seems to have been extended indefinitely.

A price war may not good for the carmakers, but it’s a sumptuous buffet for bargain hunters now. So, if you had a budget of RM120k for a Chinese EV…

Looking at the desperation of mainland EV, it likely drop to RM75K-60K very soon.

    • Gac is robust one like Great Wall and Chery at China, not a newbie. GAC reliability also above average compared to others, it assemble Toyota for China market.

      Neta is a new startup.

This car is used in Didi (like grab) a lot. Frankly speaking, it is spacious but interior is really simple and plastic feel. The seats also not comfortable for long hour drive. Sit and feel then only you can know.

GAC and AION have poor presence on our road and poor marketing initiatives. Almost unheard of by majority of public who are more familiar with BYD, Xiaomi, Xpeng, Chery, Jaecoo and even Jetour…
