You may have seen a notice purportedly issued by KTM circulating on social media today, informing of a service termination at the Bank Negara and Kuala Lumpur stations tomorrow from 9am to 5pm, with Komuter trains supposedly not stopping at the two stops during this period. The occasion? The Himpunan Turun Anwar rally held by opposition party Perikatan Nasional, slated to be held in and around Dataran Merdeka.
That has turned out not to be the case, according to transport minister Anthony Loke. In a social media post, he announced that he has instructed both Prasarana (RapidKL) and KTM to continue operating as normal on July 26 despite the protest against the government.
“The Madani government is defending [the people’s] freedom of assembly, including those that do not align with the government,” he said. “We cannot return to the era [of government] that oppresses democracy to the point of shutting down parliament. More importantly, our public transport has to continue to function so that the majority of people can continue their weekend matters without being disturbed by an opposition rally.”
Loke reminded those coming to KL to take advantage of the RM50 My50 pass (cheekily adding that the government subsidises RM100 of the pass worth RM150) and, for those visiting for the first time, a RM6 MyCity pass for a one-day unlimited use of LRT, MRT, BRT, Monorail and RapidBus services. He also urged protesters to use public transport to minimise traffic jams.
Earlier today, KTM denied that it issued the said notice, according to The Star. In a reply to a Facebook comment, it said there had been no official notice from its management regarding such a move. It added that any information would be shared through official channels.
Looking to sell your car? Sell it with Carro.
Defending peoples freedom? LOL! Nope!
It is bcoz the train stations have lotsa cameras to take protestor faces. Later they can expect SB to come visit in the nite and grab the key persons. If they stop train service, they will come by car, come by bus, come by boat, come by basikal, and PH Gomen will not able to trace them.
