Malaysia is the top-performing market for the MG Cyberster across the Asia and Oceania regions. This was revealed by MG Motor Malaysia, which noted that over 90 orders were received in the months since the electric roadster with scissor doors was launched here back in December last year.
When it was initially introduced, the Cyberster was offered in a sole all-wheel drive variant equipped with a 77-kWh nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) battery. This powered a pair of electric motors – one for each axle – that provided a total system output of 544 PS (536 hp or 400 kW) and 725 Nm of torque.
Capable of a top speed of 208 km/h, with the first hundred arriving in 3.2 seconds from a standstill, the Cyberster AWD provided a range of up to 446 km following the WLTP standard. With current government incentives for fully-imported (CBU) electric vehicles (EVs), the Cyberster AWD currently retails for RM320,548 on-the-road without insurance.
Just last month, the Cyberster line-up was expanded to include a more affordable, rear-wheel drive variant priced at RM300,548. This retains the 77-kWh NCM battery but loses the front electric motor, with the remaining rear unit delivering 340 PS (335 hp or 250 kW) and 475 Nm.
The lower output figures result in a lower top speed of 195 km/h and a 0-100 km/h time of five seconds, but you do get more range at up to 508 km. Both variants support AC charging at up to 7 kW, while DC fast charging peaks at 150 kW, the latter enabling the battery to get from 10-80% state of charge in just 38 minutes.
