Hap Seng no longer a smart EV dealer in Malaysia – smart sales network down to 10 outlets nationwide

An online look-up of automotive dealer Hap Seng on Facebook will now reveal that the firm is no longer a dealer for smart electric vehicles in Malaysia. The company’s Facebook page for the EV brand has been renamed to be Hap Seng Automotive.

The smart website for the Malaysian market now shows nine dealers, though the tally by now should come to 10 with the inclusion of the dealer in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah that has opened earlier in June this year. The nine dealers now listed on the smart Malaysia website are:

  • Lee Motor EV, Alor Setar
  • smart Mobility, Damansara
  • EON, Glenmarie
  • GB Auto, Ipoh
  • Eleganz Lifestyle, Penang
  • Wheelcorp EV, Setia Alam
  • AG Autoword, Johor Bahru 2
  • HK Electra, Kuantan
  • Ghee Hua Co., Kuching

While the smart brand announced its expansion plan in 2024 towards Kota Kinabalu, Kuantan and Petaling Jaya, the PJ outlet – which was to be under Naza, and therefore located along the Federal Highway – did not materialise.

Pro-Net has confirmed to paultan.org that Hap Seng Balakong and Hap Seng Kuala Lumpur are no longer smart dealers. Hap Seng Smart was appointed dealer for the brand in May 2023, which saw the arrival of the first units in Mercedes-Benz showrooms in the fourth quarter of that year.

As for Hap Seng, the company is best known in the automotive field for its ties with Mercedes-Benz, with history that dates back to 1969.

New era Smart EV is a fun brand,
Even the Tesla owner upgrade it’s suspension benchmark to Smart EV for Agility.

Overpriced EV brand. Who wants to spend so much on these appliances? Probably can only sell if 50 to 100k cheaper from current price.

  • Smart ev car is nice to be driven, but the pricing thats kill it,same as hyundai with their ioniq pricing..with wrong pricing,it will sold in miniscule amount and not enough volume to justify numbers of dealership, even mini ev need to provide 10years of free service and high value discount to move unit for certain variant..

  • Is it because there is no shade/ cover for the sunroof? So no buyers?

    • The #1 got auto shade and somehow they went backward with the #3 no shade, and they bring it back on the #5…For what it is the 3 looks well proportion ‘style’ probably at the expense tighter headroom and lower seat base(less comfortable sitting position) at the back compared to 1..

Sadly they neither have the money nor the will to really promote this brand as it should.

Overrated Smart vehicle. Too expensive when you can buy cheaper alternative. Pity those smart buyers. Look like not so smart purchasing either.
