An online look-up of automotive dealer Hap Seng on Facebook will now reveal that the firm is no longer a dealer for smart electric vehicles in Malaysia. The company’s Facebook page for the EV brand has been renamed to be Hap Seng Automotive, even though the URL continues to reference smart.
The smart website for the Malaysian market now shows nine dealers, though the tally by now should come to 10 with the inclusion of the dealer in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah that has opened earlier in June this year. The nine dealers now listed on the smart Malaysia website are:
- Lee Motor EV, Alor Setar
- smart Mobility, Damansara
- EON, Glenmarie
- GB Auto, Ipoh
- Eleganz Lifestyle, Penang
- Wheelcorp EV, Setia Alam
- AG Autoword, Johor Bahru 2
- HK Electra, Kuantan
- Ghee Hua Co., Kuching
While the smart brand announced its expansion plan in 2024 towards Kota Kinabalu, Kuantan and Petaling Jaya, the PJ outlet – which was to be under Naza, and therefore located along the Federal Highway – did not materialise.
Pro-Net has confirmed to paultan.org that Hap Seng Balakong and Hap Seng Kuala Lumpur are no longer smart dealers. Hap Seng Smart was appointed dealer for the brand in May 2023, which saw the arrival of the first units in Mercedes-Benz showrooms in the fourth quarter of that year.
As for Hap Seng, the company is best known in the automotive field for its ties with Mercedes-Benz, with history that dates back to 1969.
