Transport minister Anthony Loke has announced that the price of the BAS.MY 30-day Unlimited Travel Pass for stage buses has been reduced to RM30 from RM50 previously. As reported by Bernama, the reduced takes effect immediately and applies to states operating under the Stage Bus Transformation Programme (SBST).
“The price reduction applies nationwide wherever BAS.MY services operate such as Johor Bahru, Melaka, Seremban, Ipoh, Kota Setar, Kuala Terengganu, Kota Baru and Kangar. With this reduction, the cost of travelling on the BAS.MY service is only RM1 a day, or 50 sen for a return trip. I hope the lower price will encourage more people to subscribe to the monthly pass and use public transportation,” said Loke.
“The RM30 pass will remain in place permanently and must be renewed monthly. Senior citizens, students and persons with disabilities do not have to pay for the rides but must apply for concession passes,” he added.
Loke also revealed that three new routes have been added to the BAS.MY service in Johor Bahru, which now has 21 routes (previously 18) covering areas in the city, Iskandar Puteri, Pasir Gudang, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Pontian.
He pointed out that there is a rising demand for the bus service in Johor Baru, which currently serves more than 30,000 daily passengers, or over 900,000 monthly riders. The federal government will invest RM134.94 million for two years to ensure SBST services in Johor Bahru continue to benefit Malaysians.
