The Malaysian environmental department (DOE) has checked 9,269 vehicles nationwide under Ops Gerak Kebangsaan (which began December 4) and found 94% of them emissions-compliant with the Environmental Quality Act (AKAS) 1974, Bernama reports.
Operations deputy director-general Dr Norhazni Mat Sari attributed this to cleaner fuels such as Euro 5 diesel, newer engine technology and regular maintenance, adding that only 567 non-compliant vehicles were found during the operation.
“This means only 6% of vehicles (checked) failed to comply, breaching six rules on diesel and petrol smoke emissions, including exceeding smoke reading tests,” she said at yesterday’s closing of Ops Gerak Kebangsaan, adding that while achieving 100% compliance in the near term is challenging, reaching almost 95% (which is DOE’s target) is considered realistic and commendable.
Ops Gerak Kebangsaan involved all state DOE offices, the road transport department (JPJ), the police, the national anti-drugs agency (AADK) and other federal and state agencies, covering diesel and petrol emissions, motorcycle noise levels, fuel content and refrigerant management.

same logic as saying 94% of civil servants are not corrupted so everything is fine and well
Lorries and buses are the main polluting culprits.
that has always been the case right?
the question from day one is what has the government done with the percentage of those who don’t comply.
No wonder 94% still passed due to ancient DOE emission standard since 1996 and 2000.
