The road transport department (JPJ) has denied issuing ‘EE’ series number plates, as alleged on social media. “The approval letter circulating on social media is fake and constitutes a form of fraud that has the potential to confuse and deceive the public,” JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said in a statement.

Preliminary investigations have found that the format and identity of official JPJ correspondence was used unlawfully, which included the use of letterheads, writing style and layout which were designed to resemble official JPJ documents, which cause confusion among the public and have affected the department’s credibility, the JPJ director-general said.

The department has lodged a police report for further investigation, and reminds the public to be vigilant and not be deceived by any dubious offers relating to vehicle registration plates, and to always verify information through official JPJ channels to avoid becoming victims of fraud.
