Emergency lane abuse due to traffic frustration – JPJ

Frustration with traffic congestion is one of the main reasons for the misuse of emergency lanes on highways, according to the road transport department (JPJ), reported Bernama.

Another common reason given by road users for the abuse of highway emergency lanes is that they are used to driving in the emergency lanes, and that they want to reach their destination more quickly, said Negeri Sembilan JPJ director Hanif Yusabra Yusuf.

The Negeri Sembilan JPJ director emphasised that using the emergency lane not only breaks the law, but also obstructs the movement of ambulances, fire trucks and security forces, putting lives at risk.

The department began an operation targeting the misuse of emergency lanes in December 20, which will run until January 11, and as of today (January 5) it had issued 325 notices to road users who had violated Regulation 53(1) of the Road Traffic Rules 1959.

A total of 2,288 cases of emergency lane abuse were recorded last year, and JPJ will continue its enforcement efforts in a sustained, targeted, and focused manner, particularly along major routes and high-risk areas, said the Negeri Sembilan JPJ director.

Because of speed limit too low and too many heavy vehicles

  • You should be catching those road hogging instead of speeder. They thought they are have the right of lane when traveling at max legal speed.

In Malaysia each of us at least has a car, with so many cars on the road, and putting a average speed cam? Why don’t you limit the max users on highway?

bikes uses it all the time without penalty. no tolls required too. perhaps all road users should convert to bikes. become the next thailand or vietname, make the roads 100% congested with bikes.

    1. Frustration is not an excuse to use the emergency lane
    2. JPJ already installed Green lights to use the emergency lane when the green light is on.
    3. Did the drone look to see if the Green light, is lit?.. if it waS lit up, the car, using the emergency lane is not committing an offense.
