Woman in her 80s arrested for driving against traffic on DASH – suspect got lost and was looking for an exit

A woman in her 80s was detained by the police for driving against traffic at KM10.8 of the Damansara-Shah Alam Expressway (DASH) on Monday (May 18, 2026). In a statement, Petaling Jaya police chief Shamsudin Mamat said the arrest was made after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

In the video, which is nearly two minutes long, the suspect’s vehicle is seen coming into view driving against traffic before passing the recording vehicle. The rider of the latter, realising what is happening, then proceeds to chase after the suspect’s vehicle in an attempt to get her to stop, also going against traffic in the process.

Preliminary investigations suggest the woman became lost while heading home at around 9:30pm and drove against traffic to look for an exit from the highway. Thankfully, no accidents involving the suspect’s vehicle were reported.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving. Witnesses of the incident are urged to come forward and get in touch with the Petaling Jaya police headquarters.

This might have been an honest mistake but you shouldn’t continue driving against traffic if you find yourself lost. You should signal to others that you are going the wrong way and move your vehicle to the road shoulder before stopping and assessing the situation and your next move, like attempting a U-turn when the coast is clear.
