Toyota Alphard with over 20 AES summonses, expired road tax seized after trying to escape Kedah JPJ op

A Toyota Alphard driver’s attempt to evade the Kedah road transport department (Kedah JPJ) ultimately failed after he was arrested on May 25, 2026.

According to a posting on Kedah JPJ’s official Facebook page as well as a report by Kosmo, the driver fled after being stopped during an operation on the Sultanah Bahiyah Highway.

Officers later managed to track down the vehicle parked near a bank in Mergong, with investigations revealing it had more than 20 outstanding AES summonses worth over RM6,000. Additionally, the MPV did not have a valid road tax and insurance since February.

“The owner’s excuse was that the summons only appeared this year and that he was experiencing financial problems and asked to be given time to pay the summons,” said Kedah JPJ director Stien Van Lutam. He added that the owner, who works as a lorry driver, will be fined and his vehicle seized.

Kedah JPJ stressed that fleeing or trying to hide a vehicle will not prevent the authorities from taking action against owners who fail to comply with road laws.
