Overview
The Hyundai Santa Fe MX5 is a D-segment SUV launched in 2025, with six- or seven-seat layouts and a choice of hybrid front-wheel drive or petrol all-wheel drive. It suits buyers who need a larger family SUV and want either hybrid running or the stronger 2.5-litre petrol option. Prices start from RM225,000.
Santa Fe in 2026 — what's new
The 2025-launched Santa Fe continues into 2026 with two 1.6T Hybrid seven-seaters and a 2.5T Calligraphy six-seater. The latest development is local assembly: the Santa Fe is scheduled for CKD launch from Hyundai’s Kulim operation in Q2 2026. The range keeps the 241 hp 1.6-litre hybrid with front-wheel drive, while the Calligraphy uses a 277 hp 2.5-litre petrol engine, AWD and a wet dual-clutch automatic.

Which variant to buy
Most buyers should start with the 1.6T Hybrid Prime at RM225,000. It has the same 241 hp hybrid powertrain, front-wheel drive and seven seats as the RM245,000 Prestige, leaving a RM20,000 saving for buyers who do not need trim-specific extras; check the equipment list before paying more. Choose the RM270,000 2.5T Calligraphy only if AWD, 277 hp and its six-seat layout matter more than the hybrid’s seven-seat practicality.

Verdict
The Santa Fe covers two distinct briefs: the hybrid variants provide seven seats and 241 hp, while the Calligraphy adds AWD and 277 hp but reduces seating to six. It is priced above the Volkswagen Tayron, Omoda Jaecoo J8 and Omoda Jaecoo C9, as well as the Proton X90, Jetour VT9 and Leapmotor C10. Buyers need to place real weight on its hybrid powertrain, seating layout or AWD before accepting that premium.
