Tayron in 2026 — what's new

The 2026 Volkswagen Tayron is the new DN-generation model in Malaysia, locally assembled in Pekan and sold in two seven-seat variants. The 1.5 eTSI Elegance opens the range, while the 2.0 TSI R-Line is the latest addition, bringing a 261 hp petrol engine, all-wheel drive and more equipment. Both use a seven-speed wet dual-clutch automatic gearbox.

Which variant to buy

Most buyers should start with the RM190,660 1.5 eTSI Elegance. It retains the Tayron’s seven-seat layout and costs RM47,914 less than the RM238,574 2.0 TSI R-Line. Pay more for the R-Line if 261 hp and all-wheel drive matter to you; the Elegance has 148 hp and front-wheel drive. The R-Line also gets more kit, but check the final equipment list before treating that sizeable gap as worthwhile.

Verdict

The Tayron gives buyers a seven-seat D-segment SUV with a clear mechanical split between its two variants. Its starting price is higher than the named same-class rivals, which begin between RM106,800 and RM178,800, so the Volkswagen badge alone cannot justify the outlay. The Elegance keeps the entry point below RM200k, while the R-Line is for buyers prepared to spend substantially more for its 261 hp engine and all-wheel drive.
