Car Buyer's Guide

Overview

The Toyota Vios is a five-seat B-segment sedan for buyers who want a conventional four-door with a petrol or petrol-hybrid drivetrain. This NGC102 generation arrived in 2023 and starts from RM90,600 in Malaysia. It suits urban and family use, with CVT or eCVT automatics across the range.

Vios in 2026 — what's new

For 2026, the Vios range gains the Hybrid, launched in Malaysia in January 2026 in HEV and Hybrid GR Sport forms. The hybrid uses a 1.5-litre petrol-hybrid/eCVT drivetrain, with 111 PS and 27.8 km/l claimed, plus a CKD battery. The line-up now runs from the petrol 1.5E and 1.5G to the Hybrid and Hybrid GR Sport.

Which variant to buy

For most buyers, the 1.5E at RM90,600 is the cleanest pick: it has the same 1.5-litre 104 hp petrol engine, CVT automatic and five-seat layout as the 1.5G at RM96,600. Pay RM103,900 for the Hybrid if fuel use is the priority. The Hybrid GR Sport costs RM109,900; on paper you are paying for GR Sport trim, not more output over the regular Hybrid.

Verdict

The current Vios is a much fuller reset than the long-serving third-generation car. The DNGA-based sedan is larger than before, with a 2,620 mm wheelbase, and the Malaysian review found big improvements with a more premium feel and more features. But pricing is the hard part: the Vios starts above the Persona, Almera and City, while the hybrid models sit beyond the same-class rival price ceiling.
