Lexus LC 500 trademarked – is the LF-LC confirmed?

Lexus LF-LC Blue-01

The stunning Lexus LF-LC Concept, reportedly green lighted for production a while back, edges closer to reality, and the series model now looks to have a name – Lexus Enthusiast reports that the automaker recently trademarked LC 500 and LC 500h nameplates in the United States, Canada and Australia. Hat tip to reader Ron Nard for the pointer.

If this is read right, the production coupe will be carrying over the LC model suffix from the stunning study, and the 500 series badging could suggest a 5.0 litre powertrain like the V8 mill seen in the RC F being used in this one, at least for the standard car. The possibility of a new twin-turbo mill cannot be discounted, of course.

A potential form for the hybrid bandied about initially was that of a LC 600h, with the hybrid powertrain from the LS 600h L, so will we see the 5.0 litre V8 with two electric motor configuration as found on the latter, or will there be a new lower displacement/higher output engine in the mix?

Whatever the case, it’s nice to know that the excellent reception to the LF-LC after its debut in Detroit back in 2012 has helped the car along into becoming a working reality – if the finished article looks anywhere close to the study, it’s going to be quite the beauty. Fingers crossed, then.
