Converting your Perodua Myvi to a turbo?

You’ve got a Perodua Myvi. You got fire-hot looks. Even hotter if you have lips, skirtings and nice sports rims slapped on. Now you got to give the car a motor worthy of it’s fire-hot looks! :P

The premium model Perodua Myvi comes with a 1.3 DVVT DOHC engine designated the K3-VE. This same engine is used in most 1.3 Daihatsus like the Daihatsu YRV, and of course the Toyota Avanza and the Perodua Kembara DVVT.

HOWTO: Learn to brake properly using ABS Brakes

This is the first in the series of automotive articles and howtos I am going to post.

Our local car manufacturers have begun equipping their higher end models with ABS. What is ABS? I know some of you think ABS stands for Air Bag System. No, it doesn’t okay. Heheh :P ABS stands for Anti-lock Braking System. What is ABS? Let me explain how it works and what is the proper way to use them.

Perodua Myvi Photos from the Showroom

Here are somemore Perodua Myvi photos from a Perodua showroom.

You can click the thumbnails for a bigger version.

This is the front and back of the vehicle. This mode is the Mistik Red model which is a solid colour although it looks as good as metallics. It’s the 1.3SX which is the 1.3 manual model without airbags and ABS.

This is an Ozzy Orange Perodua Myvi. It is the 1.3EZ model. The Ozzy Orange colours on this Perodua Myvi is the same as the Kelisa Special edition running around with the spoiler that looks like the Mivec batman spoiler. This engine bay holds the K3-VE engine, a twin-cam 1.3 liter powerplant with variable valve timing. I’ve never seen such an extractor heat shield before though.

On the left is the interior of the 1.3SX model. On the right is an information plate stuck on the underside of the bonnet which you can read when you open it. It lists the idle speed and miscellaneous other information about the specifications of Myvi’s engine and air conditioning system.

A look at the Perodua Myvi 1.3EZ’s automatic gear shift. It’s in D 2 L formation with a button on the side to activate or deactivate the OverDrive gear (4th gear). It is recommended you deactivate the OverDrive during driving in areas like housing estates where your speed is pretty low to avoid unnecessary downshifts and upshifts which might wear out the gearbox prematurely.

Perodua Myvi Technical Datasheet

The Perodua Myvi was launched last night at 9:30pm. The cars are in the show rooms so you guys can go check it out now. Anyway I have here the technical specifications for the Perodua Myvi.

Click for a larger version.

We can see some new information from this datasheet. It seems the back brake lights for the 1.3 model are the LED type which lights up faster and uses less power as well as generates less heat. This is cool! :P

Kerb weight for the Myvi ranges for about 900kg to 955kg for the heaviest model. As a comparison, the Kelisa is 760kg and the Kenari is 865kg.

Toyota Innova Launching on the 27th

Toyota is set to launch it’s new Toyota Innova model on the 27th May 2005. This is the latest in the range of Toyota people movers known as the IMV platform. IMV stands for International Innovative Multipurpose Vehicle. Toyota created this platform when they realised their people mover vehicles in most countries were looking pretty dated.

Most of you might have already heard of this model as it’s pretty hot in Indonesia as the Toyota Kijang Innova. It’s a true 8-seater model unlike most 7-seater MPVs.

Proton Sassy - Tiara Replacement Model (Now Renamed to Savvy)

Sassy is the destined name for the new Tiara Replacement Model by Proton. Proton spokespeople gave this name which means “stylish” or “bergaya” as the Proton spokesperson said.

The Proton Sassy or Tiara Replacement Model should be due very soon with the newspaper ads appearing much more frequently and booking forms available on Proton Edar’s website. I don’t have any launch dates at the moment but I will update as soon as I get hold of the information.

I wonder if they got the name from the Korean show My Sassy Girl :P

Anyway here’s a shot of a clay model for a Proton dashboard. I wonder if it will be used in the Proton Sassy.

Click for a larger picture.

Looks like the sporty Lotus-type of look is still there. The Audi rip-off steering is still there. I don’t really like that colour which is supposed to give a luxury feel. This is a 1.2 liter small car. Somehow it doesn’t really suit the exterior image.

So guys, who are you rooting for? The Proton Sassy or the Perodua Myvi?

UPDATE: I have received information that Proton has renamed the Sassy to Proton Savvy. More about it here.

For more photos of the car, you can check out the previous posts I’ve made below.

Google Adsense Report Statistics with Excel

To create your own pretty charts, simply follow these quick instructions:

1) Download your CSV file from Google (its above every report you can make) I recommend taking the “All Time” report because if gives a larger sample size.

2) Open Microsoft Excel or a similar spreadsheet application. These instructions are really for Excel, but most spreadsheet packages are similar.

3) Open the CSV file in Excel, youll have a table of figures.

4) Delete only the column heading marked “Date” (for some reason this messes charts up) (dont delete the entire column or you cant tell what youve done over time!)

5) Delete the rows at the bottom of your sheet that indicate Totals. (otherwise you have a spike at the end of your graph which makes everything else hard to interpret)

6) Highlight column A (should be date) and highlight column B (most likely to be Page impressions) and go to Insert > Chart. Go through the wizard (its really simple) looking at the lovely charts you can make. Settle on the first bog standard line graph. Next, Next, Next, until you hit the part that asks where you want to create it (in the current worksheet- no, or in a new worksheet- yes!) Click Finish and bang! Instant charts.

7) Now repeat for A+C, A+D, A+E and A+F.

8) Save to disk, then print. Analyse, marvel and plot for world domination.

Perodua Myvi Engine Bay

Two days more to the Perodua Myvi launch! Is everyone excited? :P Here are some more photos of the Myvi, this time of the engine bay.

Here are photos of the Perodua Myvi 1.3’s engine bay. You can look at the K3-VE engine sitting in there, waiting to be started up and driven.

The air filter box says 1.3 16V Twin Cam.

The air intake sucks air from the left side of the engine bay. Actually the engine bay looks pretty cramped. I wonder if there’s space to put open pod air filters.

From the above photo and this photo, you can see the extractor seems covered with some heatshield material. Probably because it was a hot day in Sepang?

This is a cross section of the K3-VE engine for people to see the pistons inside and etcetra. If you look at the top part, you can see there’s two camshafts because it’s a DOHC engine.
