Volkswagen Golf GTI Mk6 “Concept”

Volkswagen Golf GTI

The first initial details on the new Mark 6 Volkswagen Golf GTI have been unveiled by the German manufacturer. Like the previous Mk5 car, it is powered by a 2.0 liter TSI engine. The EA888 gets its power bumped up by 10 PS (only?) to 210 PS, but no other details have been revealed about the engine at the moment. The car’s CO2 output is 178g/km, a drop from the 189g/km of the Mk5 GTI. The 0 to 100km/h sprint is achieved in 7.2 seconds.

The press release also mentions MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link setup at the rear with tuned springs, dampers and anti-roll bars. There is a system much like Audi drive select installed in the car called Adaptive Chassis Control. Choose between comfort, normal and sport to remap steering settings, throttle response as well as adjust the pneumatic dampers. There is also an electric LSD which Vee-dub calls “XDS”.

Volkswagen calls this a GTI “concept” in its press release but I’m pretty sure this is really very close to the production version, which will go on sale in spring 2009.

looks more cute than aggressive. other than the obvious change in exterior styling and the steering wheel, the rest of the parts look quite similar with the Mk5…..to keep costs down?

and 7.2s for the 0-100 time? surely this must be for the stick shift? i’ll hazard a guess that the DSG should shave off about 0.2s.

I think the grille current-gen Golf GTI looks much better and more aggressive… But overall, I really like the car… The only problem is the grille… They should keep the car the same, and just change the grill like the current Golf GTI…

The Mark 5 GTi still looks a lot better and sportier. Huhu…save some money and grab the current GTi before they replace it with this one..

Heh, the rear looks very similar to their touareg now… That kinda sucks. At least the interior’s sexier than the current dull one. :P

but the gti doesnt guzzle fuel like the evo and sti, more reliable, better interior, more practical and most importantly the tyre wear is not as bad

So care to explain more on that? sarcasm

I don’t think tyre wear it really influencing anything.

Yes agree VW has better interior than Evo and STI.
Fuel consumption …. more power more fuel so no comparison.
Practical …hmm doesnt have a boot like a EVO or STI
but yes it is easier to drive…… hey ladies also can drive the car.
Not as hardcore as the EVO or STI.

er maybe not in the same category as EVO or STI.

    Reliability ….er questionable…..EPC light……
