Sime Darby Bhd is considering expanding it’s Kulim car production facility from the current 30,000 units a year up to 120,000 units a year if it can get Hyundai to use Malaysia as it’s ASEAN hub. Hyundai is currently considering between Thailand, Vietnam or Malaysia as potential production hub for the ASEAN market.
Currently Sime Darby assembles a few Hyundai vehicles for the local market through it’s Inokom badge – the ATOZ as the Inokom Atos Prima, the Matrix as the Inokom Matrix, and most recently the Hyundai Getz as the Inokom Getz. Inokom also assembles Hyundai commercial trucks like the Hyundai Mighty, and has plans to locally assemble SUVs by Hyundai.

later kau tim the talk between simedarby and hyundai. they face the high import duty as what UMW facing now……
If i am Hyundai, I would not waste time talking to malaysia. How can you survive by manufacturing for malaysian market only.
Asean no chance-la. Chances are the other Asean countries will impose higher import tax for CBU from Malaysia since we are not observing AFTA.
With such restriction, Msia cannot expand auto-industry lah. Only Proton can survive :)

Gamen will def find way to shooh Hyundai, as they've done to VW. They rly shudnt waste time here, go Thai instead, n be guarenteed to be satisfied 1.0X10^1000000 more than Msia.
I dont know…but think….
If Proton is no longer fully owned by M'sia. Would MITI really continue to be so anal retentive?
Something good might come out of this after all.
We have the facilities, the workforce. Turning down FDI like this (when you got nothing to protect anymore) is a bit silly.
Thailand and others have refused to grant AFTA concession for "locally" made cars for what they claim is Malaysia's own non-compliancy to AFTA. Isn't this a major blow for local automotive industry? Forget Hyundai, what about VW and Proton ? Is VW going to manufacture in Malaysia for Europe – I think not ?
All this confirm TALK only show merely to support P1 share price only. Perhaps P1 have to conduct reality talk show on weekly basis just like "Apprentice" by Donald Trump, not for participants to be selected to work, but talk cock how to stimulate and create interest in P1 to prop up its share price.
Good idea, but then Hyundai does not want to face the same thing as Toyota hiace and Thai….then IF this does happen, then stupid automotive policy
